There’s lots of advice online about how to answer competency-based interview questions using STAR, structure, or storytelling frameworks, and those are great ways to organize your answers.

Here, we wanted to focus on something a bit different: the intention behind the questions.

We’ll be posting a series exploring competency-based interview questions, what interviewers may be trying to understand, and different angles you could consider in your answers.

The aim isn’t to tell you what to say, but to offer a few ideas to help you think about what a question is really trying to uncover, so you can approach your answers with that in mind.
