Here are a few example questions you can ask your recruiter to get a better understanding of what you could be stepping into – culture, environment and people: 

  • Why is the role open? (if you only as one question, make it this!)
  • How has recruitment looked over the last 6 months? 
  • What’s employee retention like in the team? 
  • What’s the average tenure within the team? 
  • How’s your experience working with the Hiring Manager? 
  • What’s the team’s biggest challenge right now? 
  • What does career progression typically look like? 
  • What would success look like in the first 6 months?  
  • Can you share an example of someone who started in this role and grew into something bigger? 
  • Are there any changes coming up that I should know about? 
  • How does the company handle mistakes? (Because everyone makes them.) 
  • What does the onboarding process look like?

    And if you’re talking to an in-house recruiter: 
  • What do you like most about working here? .…chances are you’ll hear “it’s the people.” 

    Better: 
  • If you could change one thing about working here, what would it be? 

Changing jobs is a big thing, so don’t be afraid to ask your Recruiter the questions you want answers to.
