Here are a few example questions you can ask your recruiter to get a better understanding of what you could be stepping into – culture, environment and people:
- Why is the role open? (if you only as one question, make it this!)
- How has recruitment looked over the last 6 months?
- What’s employee retention like in the team?
- What’s the average tenure within the team?
- How’s your experience working with the Hiring Manager?
- What’s the team’s biggest challenge right now?
- What does career progression typically look like?
- What would success look like in the first 6 months?
- Can you share an example of someone who started in this role and grew into something bigger?
- Are there any changes coming up that I should know about?
- How does the company handle mistakes? (Because everyone makes them.)
- What does the onboarding process look like?
And if you’re talking to an in-house recruiter: - What do you like most about working here? .…chances are you’ll hear “it’s the people.”
Better:
- If you could change one thing about working here, what would it be?
Changing jobs is a big thing, so don’t be afraid to ask your Recruiter the questions you want answers to.
